This book just blew my mind. I'm not going to deny I was authentically spooked while reading some parts of this book. And that is very hard to do seeing that I've been reading Stephen King and Dean Koontz since I was a teenager. Hoover did a very good job of building the suspense... I was seriously dreading the next page. You know something's about to happen but you can't help reading on. Couldn't put it down until I finished it way after 2 am. This is what I call a true thriller and to know that this was the author's first thriller was even more mind-blowing. I can only applaud her work and hope she'll try writing more in this genre....

The story is quite simple really. An unsuccessful writer is hired to finish a famous series by a bestselling author who has had an accident and is in a lethargic bedridden state. Once our main character Lowen, is ensconced in the writer's home, it only takes her a few days to fall in love with Verity's handsome husband and pity their little boy. Then one night she discovers an autobiography hidden in the writer's study. Out of curiosity she starts reading the various chapters of the woman's life, discovering bone-chilling secrets about the death of the family's two twin daughters. Obviously not everything is what it seems and soon Lowen is terrified of what seems to be a harmless paraplegic. But is the woman really that harmless?

I really can't praise it enough. If you havent' already, grab a copy, you won't regret it...

I can't give it anything less than 5 stars!
