Well, friends, speaking of twists and turns ... phew! I wonder how anyone could have seen this one coming! I feel pretty 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘣𝘰𝘣𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥!
After reading 𝘏𝘪𝘴 & 𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘴 by the same author, I was quite concerned that this book would not do it justice!
But I needn’t have worried because Alice Feeny is the queen of twists, and this superbly written thriller is no exception. It kept me guessing right until the very end! And no matter how many times my reading buddy and I went back to reread parts of the story, the twist still managed to smack us right in the face!
When Amelia and Adam win a weekend in the remote Scottish Highlands, it could be just what they need to save their marriage. Both are at odds when they finally arrive during a snowstorm, only to discover that their Inn is a converted chapel with an adjoining graveyard. Shortly after they get settled in, things start getting weird. A mysterious face appears at the window, locked doors inexplicably open the next day, electricity is turned off. And no phone signal! When their dog suddenly goes missing during the night, suspicions flare-up between the couple...
We get some backstory through letters that one of the two characters writes to the other each year of their marriage and which help us understand why their relationship is so strained.
I honestly don’t want to say anything more because the best thing is to go into this one blind…and possibly deaf. The less you know the better.
I would have given five stars if it weren't for the very last chapter, which I found pretty superfluous. I mean what was the point?
Overall, I am 𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘥! 😉
You need to read this one!
