I wanted to read this before I watched the movie, and went into it rather blind. All I knew was that it resembled the movie Rear Window. Being a huge fan of Hitchcock movies but also of the film Disturbia I had little doubt that I would love it. That being said, there are some small issues I had with this book. One is the main character whom I didn’t find very endearing. I also thought the plot-line was a little predictable. I saw two of the big twists coming from the start. 🤷🏻♀️
Yet I did not work out the final twist, which is why I gave it four stars. The writing style and chapters are rather short and clipped which made it rather unputdownable for me. You are mostly in the main character’s head... so you only have one POV. I would def recommend it if you enjoyed Gone Girl or The Girl on the Train.
Since reading this book I have discovered that there has been a big issue regarding the likeness to Sarah A. Denzil’s novel Saving April (which was released before this novel). I have not read Denzil’s book yet, so cannot compare the two, but def will. For A.J. Finn’s sake I do hope the similarities are just extraordinary coincidences... but who can say!
So to wrap it up, it’s a good psychological thriller but it feels like something you’ve already seen or read. I kept getting images of the movie Copycat, which again took a way some of the originality for me!
