This is my second book by Ruth Ware and she is quickly becoming a favourite of mine. I've seen some bad reviews on social media, so wasn't convinced I was going to like it, but thank God that wasn't the case!
I do tend to judge a book by how hard it is to let go of it while I'm reading and if I get bored with the story. That did not happen in this case and each time I stopped reading I couldn't wait to get back.
I noticed many reviewers complained about how the main character gets on your nerves. But I found that her fragile state of mind was a crucial part of the story. Her continuous lack of sleep and drinking problem made her so unreliable. And that, my friends, was a stroke of genius that made the whole plot work.
For those few who haven’t read it yet, this book can be considered a tribute to Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile and the old Hitchcock movie The Lady Vanishes (probably unheard of by many younger readers...
Imagine getting on a cruise ship and witnessing a murder... only the woman you think has been murdered doesn’t seem to exist for she isn’t a member of the crew nor is she a guest... and nobody but you seems to have ever met her.
I found the mystery to be well-plotted with some good twists, tension-packed moments and an ending that left me breathless!
4 stars!
