This was such a good book. The location, atmosphere, characters... everything was just perfect in a way that conveyed the Australian farming community during a harsh dry. The book is kind of a slow burner which I usually don’t like. But the writing style and the characters (did I mention the atmosphere?) were so vivid that it just gripped me from the start and never let me go.

Our main character, a federal agent from Melbourne, is called back to his hometown after the mass murder of his friend’s family. What looks like a murder/suicide at first glance quickly turns into something much mo re sinister. It’s a stunning debut with cinematic scenes that will keep you turning the pages right till the end.

The book has been adapted to a movie starring Eric Bana which will be released at the end of this year, so I’ll be holding my breath until then! 🤩

5 stars!
