First of all thanks to Kelsey from Book Publicity Services for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I would classify this a crime novel instead of a thriller, as there are no big twists or whodunit mysteries. Instead, it reads more like a detective story unfolding in two parallel settings. In one setting we follow Cpt. Linda Turner who is called to investigate a triple murder case, when 3 bodies are found buried in a garden. Then there is the simultaneous story of the murderer who is picking its new victim in another city. The two stories eventually collide and come to the final dramatic conclusion. The whole story is very believable and could have been taken from one of the true-crime documentaries on Netflix.
While I enjoyed the actual story I must say that the writing felt way too descriptive... (constantly telling what someone was feeling when it was rather apparent) which distracted a lot. I also felt the story was being told and not showed... and I would have liked to see more depths in character development.
That being said this is Schleich’s debut novel and I’m confident we will be hearing more from this author. The story was indeed very well-plotted.
