I have to confess that this is a typical case of IG made me do it! After all the hype on here and Goodreads, I knew I had to read this book! I won’t say too much about the plot as many others have explained it very eloquently on other book blogs. This is just my personal review of the book! I went through three phases while reading ACOTAR. After the book took off with a bang I started having strong Beauty and Beast vibes and I thought I might be in for a retelling of the famous fairytale. Then the story sort of deflated and went through a rather non-eventful phase (a wee bit boring tbh) where we get to know the characters and this magnificent world which is Prythian. Being a newbie to fantasy and magic this part of the book was rather eye-opening while I grappled between incredulity, eye-rolling (just a couple) and deep frowns. The next and final phase of the book was like a punch in the gut as our main character fights for her life during some very frightening and sickening challenges launched to her by the wicked queen. Only if she overcomes them all, will she and her friends be saved. For me this was the best and most ingenious part of the book, which had me reading into the late hours of the night, cheering the MC and wishing there were more than 60 pages left to the end... Sarah J. Maas has woven a compelling story of bravery, love and cruelty in a magical world made of monsters, faeries and shapeshifters which have made me into a believer. My only complaint is that the narrator, who is Feyre our MC, is the only POV the reader gets. I think that was a little reductive! It would have enhanced the book by having a couple of more POVs! That being said, I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys adventure, romance and a kick-ass heroine! Can't wait to read book 2 now! 4 stars from me!
